Dear friends, we have really great EVS project in Russia, Kirov for 2 volunteers from Poland in a Waldorf kindergarten. Hoping to get your applications!

What is the project about?

Hosting organization – kindergarten “ Detskoe selo” has three departments which are situated in the center of  Kirov or not that far from it. So, there is very good transport connection to other parts of the city and from one department to the another one. The teaching method of communicating and educating children is based on the Waldorf system, where the main points are: education process with emotions, free games (not by models but organized by children).  In the kindergarten there is nice atmosphere in each department, each of them is in a province style, computers and has access to the Internet. It is always possible for volunteers to take a break during the day and to drink a cup of tea or coffee together with staff of the kindergarten.

The working day of the volunteer is 6 hours a day 5 days a week. We also provide volunteers with vacations during the project. Optionally we consult volunteers about opportunities to travel in Russia during holidays and suggest special travels across Kirov region.

Tasks for the volunteer:

The project will give the experience of international work for the volunteers, as well as practice in communication with children from different backgrounds and know more about the unique Waldorf school system. During the project the volunteers will practice public presentation skills, daily routine of taking care of children, project management, individual consulting, and work in a team. Besides the volunteers will improve their linguistic skills. The project will help volunteers to break stereotypes.

The volunteer would be an additional person who could add his/her ideas to create an intercultural and multilingual dimension for the kindergarten. Intercultural learning from the childhood can be only achieved by means of personal contacts and communication. The daily work with children offers a wide variety of exchange possibilities (music and songs, dance, storytelling & of course, literature). Creating an open mind and an interest in discovering other languages and countries is achieved so in a very natural way based on a daily contact and exchange - it becomes a sort of natural effect of becoming familiar with each other.

The main process of the project is learning process. Volunteer will learn by non-formal way with support of staff, mentor and coordinator. They will evaluate together regularly and speak about competences, which the volunteer reached and is going to reach. A mentor and a coordinator will help to a volunteer to realize her/his learning process.

The volunteer will have a social role in the kindergarten and be in contact with children. S/he will assist in the daily work, including administrative and informative tasks.

The primary activities of the volunteers are:

1. Helping to manage a daily educational routine with children at the age of 4 -7 adding to that introduction to foreign literature, including games, competitions, songs and dances.

2. Participation in the events and actions organized by the staff of the kindergarten. Take an active role in communication with children, in preparation materials, in inventing new ideas.

3. Visiting some schools, orphanages together with representative of the kindergarten with presentations, interesting games.

4. Taking part in the projects, realized in different departments of the kindergarten.

5. Helping in leading English class for children, as well as helping to lead a family English club.

6. Helping with technical tasks, as repairing books, decorating rooms, making order as well as in family classes.

7. The volunteers will have opportunity to realize their own small project with the help of the kindergarten staff.

Environment

Kirov (also known as Vyatka and Khlynov) is one of the oldest cities in Russia, the capital of the Kirov region. It is a major historical, cultural, industrial, and scientific center standing on the banks of the Vyatka River, 896 km north-east of Moscow.

Kirov is a large transport hub. The city is also crossed by Severny (Northern) (from Yaroslavl) and Novy (New) (from Nizhny Novgorod) branches of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The nearest major cities are: Kazan - 409 km, Perm - 471 km, Nizhny Novgorod - 563 km, Ufa - 734 km, Samara - 770 km.

“Pobedilovo” airport, located about 22 km from the city, offers regular flights to Moscow, Sochi, and Naryan-Mar. Also, there is a river port.

The main industries are light, machine building, metallurgy and timber. There are several museums, theaters, and universities in the city.

Inhabitants of Kirov lead a measured mode of life; their life’s temp is not so intensive like in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.  But, at the same time, there is a lot of opportunities for self-realization and emotional life here – extreme sports, night clubs, museums, theatres, parks, fitness centres, libraries etc. Everybody can find a way to find something according to his/her interests and hobbies.

More information about Kirov here.

Practical arrangements:

The working day of the volunteers is 6 hours a day 5 days a week.

EVS volunteers will live in shared apartmentwith other volunteers or in families. Actually they have to share domestic facilities with 2-3 other volunteers or family members. Kirov is a very big city, but the location of the suggested apartment is really good so the way from it  to the city centre and the kindergarten can take 20-30 mins on foot or 10-15 mins by bus (like in any big Russian city). Volunteers will be provided with necessary kitchen equipment and bed-linen. Volunteers need to follow the "common guidelines" defined in the place where they live in. It is of course important to respect place of stay and flatmates.

They will get 100 euro per month for food and 55 euro as pocket money.

To achieve working places volunteers use local buses, travel costs there are covered.

The mentor also organises monthly meeting with the volunteers as a group, facilitating discussions on disability / culture / and helping the volunteers reflect on what they have learnt for the youthpass.

At the end of EVS project the volunteers together with mentor and coordinator will create Youthpass certificate for the volunteer and describe all the competences, which were touched during the time in Russia.

Volunteers will be provided with Cigna insurance, and in case of illness we make appointments for them to go to the doctor and get the reimbursement from insurance company afterwards.
